Centennial Campaign for UCLA

The Noah Erenberg Endowment Fund will support faculty efforts to help K–12 teachers improve education for children with learning differences.

The gift from Louis and Harold Price Foundation will enable Dr. Daniel Lu, associate professor of neurosurgery, to test promising treatments, with the potential for groundbreaking therapies.

The structure was renamed La Kretz Botany Building in recognition of the $20 million the longtime donor has given overall for the project.

“Thanks to Iris [Cantor], generations of women have been empowered to take command of their health and inspired to get involved,” said medical school dean Kelsey Martin.

The legendary musician has been a part of the faculty since 1978; Dean Judith Smith said the chair will extend his “tireless advocacy work for jazz as an American art form.”

A founding gift from the couple’s foundation established the program in 2013; it is already one of the preeminent programs of its kind.

Chancellor Gene Block said the gift “signals a new era for the humanities at UCLA and, in particular, for philosophy.”

The campus exceeded the target early thanks to a record-breaking $880 million in private support during the 2017–18 fiscal year.

The awards are part of an L.A. Care initiative intended to recruit more physicians to serve Los Angeles County’s most vulnerable residents.

Joan and Jerome Snyder’s gift will establish an endowed faculty chair in the department of ophthalmology; the couple have supported a wide range of programs across the campus.

The UCLA Connection Lab, to be led by Leonard Kleinrock, will foster interdisciplinary research on a range of technologies, such as blockchain, computer networks, big data and artificial intelligence.

Robert and Dorothy Webb met when they were UCLA students in the 1950s. Their giving to the campus spans four decades.

The funds will support pediatrics faculty who are focused on enhancing quality of life for people with cerebral palsy, autism, and other developmental and behavioral challenges.

The awards, which total nearly $2.3 million, will support work by professors at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.

The donation, which builds on a decade of support from the foundation led by Dan and Rae Emmett, includes $1.8 million and a challenge: The foundation will match one-to-one gifts made by other donors up to $2.5 million.

A gift from philanthropists Jane and Terry Semel will enable UCLA to expand research, teaching and activities connected to the campus’s Healthy Campus Initiative.

The proposed minor would create new opportunities to engage students across all majors on campus, and it would extend the campus’s existing strength in Iranian studies.

The gift, to support work in operator algebras, extends Masamichi Takesaki’s previous investment in his home department.

A $2 million gift left by the late actor will support students in the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture and the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.

Eugene & Maxine Rosenfeld Hall will be one of the few facilities in the nation to unite mock clinical experiences, surgical and procedural simulation, and interprofessional emergency and hospital team training.

The $2 million gift augments the Shapiro Family Foundation’s previous giving to the school, which created a scholarship and established an endowment to fund programs in disability studies.

A second round of Centennial Campaign giving brings the couple’s campaign contributions to nearly $60 million.

The UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families will address the complex needs of youth in foster care by bringing together resources and expertise from numerous units on campus.

The gift will providing resources for early-career scientists pursuing discoveries in the understanding and treatment of irritable bowel disease.

The gift will help establish a graduate fellowship and name a dedicated study space for chemistry and biochemistry students.
