Carole Goldberg, the Jonathan D. Varat Distinguished Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law, and law professor Angela Riley, director of the UCLA American Indian Studies Center, were included in Indian Country Today's list of "9 Notable Women Who Rule American Indian Law."

Goldberg (pictured left), who is also vice chancellor for academic personnel, is a national expert on federal Indian and tribal law. She recently received the Lawrence R. Baca Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Federal Indian Law, and was appointed in January 2011 by President Obama to serve on the Indian Law and Order Commission, which is investigating and recommending ways to improve Indian country criminal justice.

Riley is also the director of UCLA's J.D./M.A. joint degree program in Law and American Indian Studies and co-director of the Native Nations Law and Policy Center. In 2003, she was selected to serve on her tribe’s Supreme Court, becoming the first woman and youngest Justice of the Supreme Court of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma. In 2010, she was elected as Chief Justice.
