Dr. Mario Deng, professor of medicine and the medical director of the UCLA integrated program for advanced heart failure, mechanical support and heart transplant, was recognized as a Gold DOC award by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation.
The honor gives patients and family members the opportunity to pay tribute publicly to physicians when they feel the care they received demonstrates exemplary skill, sensitivity and compassion.
Deng was nominated by one of his heart transplant patients who described him as “an exceptionally gifted physician and equally exceptional human being.”
Deng is also co-founder and co-president of the Relational Medicine Foundation.
The Gold foundation focuses on aspects of doctoring that are too often undervalued in an era of high-tech and economically stressed medicine and assists medical schools in teaching the habit of humanism and the value of service.
