John Hawkins, professor emeritus of UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, has been named co-director of the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP). The organization, which is based in Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo and Hong Kong, focuses on higher education capacity, equity and access, mobility and migration, new ecologies of research, and regional organizations in the Asia Pacific region.
The membership-based research organization is dedicated to research across major higher education policy issues of common interest and importance throughout the breadth of the Asia-Pacific region. Formed in 2013, and with 27 members among the premier institutions and universities in the U.S. and Asia-Pacific region, APHERP explores the full range of changes occurring in higher education throughout the region with particular attention to the areas of policy, innovation, governance and quality.
