Dr. Eric Savitsky, professor of emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, received the Hospital Physician Leadership Award from The Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) and the Patient Care Foundation. The award, which recognizes leaders in their field, was presented at the LACMA Healthcare Awards dinner held Oct. 17.

Savitsky founded and serves as the executive director of the UCLA Center for International Medicine, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving global health through education, training and technology. He has also been recognized as an outstanding physician-educator, including receiving the 2007 UCLA Award for Excellence in Education.

In addition, Savitsky initiated a highly acclaimed educational program developed to train U.S. Armed Forces medical personnel in critical combat casualty care. He served as civilian editor-in-chief of the training DVD and accompanying award-winning military textbook, "Combat Casualty Care: Lessons Learned in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). The collaborative effort involved more than 35 military subject matter experts from across the Joint Services and has since become part of standard pre-deployment training.

Most recently, Savitsky has led development of ultrasound training technologies intended to improve medical care and delivery.
