The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society selected professor King-Ning Tu for the 2013 EMPMD John Bardeen Award. This award is presented to a leader in the field of electronic materials who has made outstanding contributions within the field. A formal presentation was held at the EMPMD Council Meeting in San Antonio, Texas during the 142th TMS Annual Meeting earlier this year.
 
Tu is a professor in the departments of materials science and engineering and electrical engineering. He was also awarded the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Electronic, Magnetic, and Photonic Materials Division of TMS in 2006; the Humboldt Award for US Senior Scientists in 1996; and has been an elected member of Academia Sinica, Republic of China since 2002.
