Dr. Gary Holland received the Award for Excellence in Education from UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine. Holland is a professor and ophthalmologist in the Jules Stein Eye Institute.
 
The awards for education are given out based on peer review and recognize outstanding dedication, innovation and sustained excellence in clinical and classroom teaching. Recipients of the award distinguished themselves as exceptional educators of future physicians and must fulfill three of four important criteria: carriying an exceptional teaching load, including medical school teaching, with sustained excellence over the years, creating educational innovations, managing an educational component with skill, innovation, enthusiasm, and success, and playing a key role in interdepartmental educational activities
 
Holland attended the UCLA School of Medicine and completed internships at UC San Francisco and Emory University School of Medicine. His clinical interests include cytomegalovirus retinitis, herpetic eye diseases and HIV-related eye disease.
