Christine L. Borgman, professor and Presidential Chair in Information Studies at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, has been awarded the University of Pittsburgh's 225th Anniversary Medallion. The honor commemorates the university’s anniversary by recognizing alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their professional fields and who continue to contribute to the university and its students.
Borgman earned a masters degree in information studies from the University of Pittsburgh, following her undergraduate studies in mathematics at Michigan State University. She earned a Ph.D. in communication from Stanford University. Her research interests include scholarly information, digital libraries, scientific information, learning and cyberlearning, and human-computer interaction, among others.
“I am deeply honored to receive the 225th Anniversary Medallion," Borgman said. "The foundation that was laid by my education in the information sciences at Pittsburgh led me to the work that I am doing today.”
Borgman was also honored in 2009 with the University of Pittsburgh’s Distinguished Alumni Award and was named a Legacy Laureate that same year.
