Longtime UCLA Luskin School professor of urban planning and parking maven Donald Shoup was recently named one of the world's Top 100 City Innovators Worldwide by UBM Future Cities.
Shoup, whose influential book The High Cost of Free Parking is leading a growing number of cities to charge fair market prices for curb parking, was one of just 11 people worldwide ranked in the transportation area of the list.
"In addition to his position at UCLA, Dr. Shoup is an Honorary Professor at the Beijing Transportation Research Center, as well as the author of The High Cost of Free Parking, which discusses the need for better parking policies in cities and how these can improve the economy and environment," noted the UBM Future Cities website.
Shoup, who is a distinguished professor of urban planning, is known worldwide for his expertise in parking. He was the only UCLA faculty member honored on the list.
