New book by Asian American studies prof focuses on Filipinos in performing arts

Lucy Burns, assistant professor in the Department of Asian American Studies, has written a new book, “Puro Arte: Filipinos on the Stage of Empire.”

 

The book explores the emergence of Filipino American theater and performance from the early 20th century to the present. It conjoins colonial histories of the Philippines with U.S. race relations and discourses of globalization.
