Lee E. Ohanian, a UCLA professor of economics and director of UCLA’s Ettinger Family Program in Macroeconomic Research, provided expert testimony Dec. 12 before a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C.

Ohanian testified on the history of unionization in the country before the Senate Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard. The subcommittee was exploring the relationship between the National Weather Service and its union, National Weather Service Employees Organization. They have been at odds over staff and training levels, especially in light of cutbacks in the wake of sequestration.

Ohanian was invited to present information by the committee’s ranking member U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla).
