Rebeca Mendez, a professor in the design | media arts department at UCLA, has created public art pieces for the new Pico Rivera Library. The installments will be unveiled at the grand opening of the library, which is already gaining buzz for its state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly technological amenities, on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Mendez has created two elements as part of this installation. One is a photo collage mural titled "Circumsolar, Migration 2," which was inspired by the migratory birds that often stop and rest near the new library.
The second piece, a sculpture titled "Observation Post I," contains a portal with a quote from Marcel Proust that reads: "The only true voyage of discovery would not be to visit strange lands, but to possess other eyes, to behold the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others to behold a hundred universes that each of them beholds, that each of them is!"
