Carole Goldberg, vice chancellor of academic personnel and a nationally recognized authority in federal Indian and tribal law, has been selected by the Native American Bar Association and Federal Bar Association Selection Committee to receive the Lawrence Baca Lifetime Achievement Award in federal Indian law.
It will be awarded to her next week at Pueblo of Pojoaque in New Mexico.
Goldberg, a member of the UCLA School of Law faculty, was appointed in January 2011 by President Obama to serve on the Indian Law and Order Commission, which is investigating and recommending ways to improve Indian country criminal justice. In 2006, she served as the Oneida Indian Nation visiting professor at Harvard Law School, and in 2007 she was appointed a justice of the Hualapai Court of Appeals.
Professor Goldberg has written widely on the subject of federal Indian law and tribal law, and she is currently co-principal investigator of a $1.5 million grant from the National Institute of Justice to study the administration of criminal justice in Indian country.
