Dr. Joseph L. Demer received the Senior Honor Award at the annual meeting of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Demer delivered several presentations at the conference on topics such as eye care for autistic patients, as well as the Leonard Apt lecture on strabismus. 
 
Demer is the chief of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus in the department of ophthamology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Additionally, he is a member of the neuroscience and bioengineering interdepartmental programs, and a professor of neurology. Demer attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University and recieved his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the same school in 1983. Demer has investigated ocular motility for more than 30 years, and has a particular interest in brain function in vision.
