UCLA Summer Institutes was presented with the Creative and Innovative Award for the Most Outstanding Credit Program from the North American Association of Summer Sessions (NAASS). The association seeks to highlight the importance of curriculum development and give credit to summer session administrators who do outstanding work.
This award speicifally recognized the summer session program of the UCLA Department of World Arts and Culture/Dance within the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture. The department puts on a nine-day dance-theater intensive course for high school students age 15 and older.
The program mixes dance, theater, music, identity exploration, human relations activities and social activism. It is geared towards students interested in exploring personal identity, as well as group collaboration and how the arts can raise awareness of a variety of socially relevant themes.
