The World Stage Performance Gallery is bringing the Jazz Masters series from Leimert Park to the Ford Theatres stage for a big band benefit concert and tribute to guitar legend Kenny Burrell, professor of ethnomusicology. The Aug. 18 event will feature the contemporary large ensemble sounds made up of the finest jazz musicians in L.A., with Burrell's Los Angeles Jazz Orchestra Unlimited and pianist John Beasley's MONK'estra.

The concert and participating artists will recognize Burrell's prolific career as well as his continued support of arts education. Named a 2005 Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts for his exceptional contributions to the field of jazz, Burrell made his debut recording as a member of Dizzy Gillespie’s sextet in 1951 and continues to play music grounded in bebop and blues.

The event is sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas and Metro. For more information on the concert, go here.
