Hitoshi Abe’s new student center designed for the Vienna University of Economics and Business will be celebrated Sept. 19 along with new campus buildings by other architects, including Zaha Hadid and Peter Cook. The pre-opening ceremony in Vienna will feature architects’ presentations of their buildings to media and other members of the audience. An official opening and celebration will follow.

The site for the new campus, which is larger than 12 football fields, is in Vienna’s second district near the city's new exhibition center. The building owes its inspiration to a French dessert, millefeuille, which consists of several layers of puff pastry with a sweet filling. The building complex consists of layers placed next to and on top of each other, featuring distinctive entrances and interesting views of the city and the natural surroundings. The student center building features several atriums and houses various departments, a specialized library, a sports center, book shop and kindergarten.
