Chancellor Emeritus Albert Carnesale has been named to the U.S. Secretary of Energy Advisory Board.
 
Carnesale, who served as chancellor from 1997 to 2006, is a professor of public policy at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. His research focuses on issues in international affairs and security, and on higher education.
 
The SEAB, which is composed of scientists, business executives, academics and former government officials, serves as an independent advisory committee to Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.
 
Being named to the 19-member board is the latest in a long line of distinguished public service roles for Carnesale. He has also served on the Council on Foreign Relations and represented the United States. in high-level negotiations on defense and energy issues, including the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, SALT I. Carnesale was also a member of the Obama Administration’s Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future.
