Normal and diseased colons

UCLA

Images under a microscope reveal a normal mouse colon (left) and a mouse colon with colitis (right). In the diseased colon, the additional thickness in mass of the lining is due to severe inflammation and cancer development. The images of the diseased colon were taken of an animal from a unique mouse strain developed by the researchers that mimics early-onset ulcerative colitis in humans and may be helpful for testing new drugs and other therapies.
