The UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture (UCLA Arts) announces its calendar of more than 75 public events for Fall 2014. This is an opportunity for the public to experience the depth and diversity of UCLA Arts activities and creative programming including student exhibitions and performances, and the rich offerings of the Fowler Museum, the Hammer Museum, and the UCLA Center for the Art of Performance. Through the generous support of our community of donors, many of our events are free and all are open to the public.
Musical performances and guests
Oct. 24: Reflections on the generational trajectory and musical influence of post-Velvet Underground 70s to today — with guest music curator Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500, Luna), Tom Verlaine (Television), Martin Rev (Suicide), Eleanor Friedberger (the Fiery Furnaces), and Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), who will perform live original scores to a rare collection of previously unseen footage from Andy Warhol films.
Nov. 1–2: New work from world-renowned dance company Batsheva with choreographer and artistic director Oded Naharin.
Nov. 14–15: “The Old Woman,” a new theater production by legendary theater maker Robert Wilson, starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Willem Dafoe.
Dec. 6: An evening with Dr. John and The Nite Trippers.

Dec. 2: UCLA Jazz Orchestra – directed by Charley Harrison; UCLA Latin Jazz Big Band – directed by Bobby Rodriguez; Ellingtonia Orchestra – directed by Kenny Burrell.
Dec. 10: UCLA Symphony – conducted by Dean Anderson.
Dec. 13: UCLA Chorale and Chamber Singers who will perform a festive holiday repertoire as the fall quarter comes to a close.
Exhibitions
Oct. 3–Jan. 18, 2015: comprehensive survey of pioneering photographer Robert Heinecken and New York-based artist Jim Hodges at the Hammer Museum.
Oct. 23–31: .CALM, an exhibition of work from MFA Design Media Arts students.
Nov. 2–March 1, 2015: the first U.S. solo museum exhibition showcasing the immersive work of Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou at the Fowler Museum.
Dec. 19: a series of exhibits featuring the work of emerging artists from around the world including Graduate Open Studios from UCLA Art department graduate students.
Lectures
Oct. 14: Michael Govan, Wallis Annenberg Director of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Oct. 30: acclaimed experimental filmmaker James Benning.
Nov. 17: architect John Ruble, FAIA.

Nov. 14–15: Design Knowledge: Making Urban Humanities — a two-day event that will ask if an action-oriented methodology at the nexus of humanities, design and urbanism can transform our ability to comprehend contemporary culture and urban space?
Dec. 1: Through Positive Eyes, presented by UCLA Art & Global Health — an evening of art, performance, storytelling and media to commemorate World AIDS Day 2014 and benefit the global HIV advocacy project.
And a range of family friendly cultural events and workshops at the Hammer and Fowler Museums including the Kids in the Courtyard events such as Día de los Muertos — a celebratory event on Nov. 2 in which children will create personal altars/assemblages that will contribute to a large installation/altar in the Fowler’s Davis Courtyard.
