Robert Candler receives $1M grant for compact X-ray laser research

Robert Candler, assistant professor of electrical engineering at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, has received a $1 million research grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation to develop an ultra-compact X-ray free electron laser.

Scientist receives $3M gift to research kidney proteins

Dr. Ira Kurtz, a UCLA professor of medicine, has received a $3 million gift from the Donald T. Sterling Foundation to fund research on the structural properties of key proteins in the kidney that affect its function in health and disease.
