Attention all BruinCard holders: An update of BruinCard software will take place during UCLA's Spring Break, when there will be a rolling blackout — beginning the evening of Thursday, March 19, and through the morning of Monday, March 23 — during which BruinCard users will not be able to use the card for deposits or financial transactions at different periods of time.
The update is scheduled to be completed by Monday morning, March 23, when BruinCard financial readers will be brought back online on a rolling basis.
“The current BruinCard software and hardware have been in place for over a decade,” said Carmine Marino, director of business and finance services within Corporate Financial Services. “It’s no longer supported, and it’s time to update it. The new system will better meet the needs of UCLA’s diverse population who rely on the BruinCard for secure transactions, campus building access and cashless commerce.”
Staff and faculty will not have to get new cards as a result of the upgrade, although some departments may opt to swap old cards for new ones for all of their staff at the same time. For the majority of faculty and staff, UCLA will replace their BruinCards as they wear out, so the existing cards will continue to work for a long time, Marino said.
“This upgrade has advantages for faculty, staff and students, including improved self-service and the assurance that the new technology for door access and financial readers will serve them for a long time to come,” he explained.
