In 2013, people with unique experience and expertise in world affairs on many levels came from every corner of the globe to participate in events at the UCLA International Institute and its affiliated centers.

The institute has compiled an impressive list of high-ranking government officials, veteran diplomats and former ambassadors, political advisors, journalists, best-selling authors and policymakers who took part in discussions, lectures and informal talks with students, faculty, leaders from many sectors of L.A. as well as the public.

Condoleeza Rice
Condoleeza Rice, former U.S. secretary of state and national security advisor, was only one of dozens of VIPs who came to share their views of hot issues in play around the world. The list is as varied as the former Israeli minister of foreign affairs and historian Shlomo Ben-Ami, Czech Consul General Michal Sedláček, journalist and humanitarian Princess Basmah bint Saud, and the former head of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission, Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa.
