Quick work by UCLA police resulted in the arrest of a Culver City man following an attempted sexual assault in an off-campus apartment.

Evan Ryan Baldwin, 22, was arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual assault in the commission of a burglary. He was being held on $1 million bail at Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, police said.

The crime occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the 400 block of Landfair Avenue in a residential area of Westwood west of campus. The suspect fled when the victim screamed, and police were called by a roommate.

Using a description of the suspect, police responding to the scene detained Baldwin less than 10 minutes later near the corner of Veteran and Weyburn avenues.

The victim, a UCLA student, was not injured.

"This is an excellent example of how campus police and the community work together to protect the community," UCLA Police Chief James D. Herren said. "The prompt phone call and excellent suspect description helped our officers to make a timely arrest."
