Police officers brighten spirits of hospitalized children

The UCLA Police Officer’s Association (POA) purchased more than $1,000 worth of toys for the Mattel Children’s Hospital at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. This was the second year that the POA has donated toys to help brighten the spirits of the children at the hospital, said Officer Erik Rakowski.
The POA decided to donate money from members’ dues for the toys, which were taken to the hospital today by POA president Jeff Chobanian, treasurer Roland Ruiz and secretary Rakowski. Mattel Child staff members Stephanie Talley and Katelyn Natale accepted the gifts on behalf of the children.
Officer Ruiz put it best: “Our job is to make a difference and make the world a better place. Putting bad guys in jail isn’t the only way to do that.” Donating these toys puts a smile on the face of everyone involved and is something the POA plans to do yearly, board members said.
