Facilities Management workers began the annual ritual of boxing up the Bruin as the campus prepares for UCLA’s big rivalry football game against the Trojans Nov. 28.
The tradition of protecting UCLA’s icon from becoming a victim of pranks leads into rivalry week. One of the largest outdoor gatherings of the year on campus will take place 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the spirited Beat ’SC Bonfire and Rally in Wilson Plaza. Celebrity alumni guests will join India Carney, a UCLA graduate whose talents were showcased last spring on “The Voice,” and Coach Jim Mora and the UCLA football team.
UCLA supporters are also participating in another kind of competition, the UCLA Blue and Gold Challenge. If Bruins make 2,800 gifts by UCLA vs. USC game day, $250,000 in additional challenge gifts will be directed to the university. This year’s record-setting challenge gifts come from two generous Bruin families: first-year Bruin parents Charles and Leah Horn, and UCLA Anderson graduates as well as Bruin parents Jim and Cynthy Moffatt.
